With political activity gaining momentum ahead of the next general elections, a new citizen-led movement is stepping forward to urge calm and unity among Ugandans. Friends of Uganda (FoU), which describes itself as a transformative and non-partisan platform, has announced a press conference to discuss how the country can remain peaceful once the election period concludes.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday at Makerere University Auditorium, where organisers will engage journalists and civic leaders on ways to preserve national stability beyond political competition. According to the group, the discussion will focus on fostering dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect as key pillars for post-election harmony.

“We believe that elections should never divide the country. Our message is about shared responsibility and working together to protect the peace that defines us as Ugandans,” one of the coordinators said in an interview ahead of the briefing.

Operating under the theme “Our Nation, Our Shared Responsibility,” Friends of Uganda envisions a united and prosperous nation where citizens actively safeguard their communities against division and intolerance. The movement says it will continue engaging the public through advocacy campaigns and community dialogues that emphasise peacebuilding and patriotism.

The press conference will mark one of the first major public appearances by the organisation, whose founders include a cross-section of young professionals, religious figures, and civic activists. They say the initiative is meant to complement existing national efforts to ensure a peaceful transition after elections.

As Uganda prepares for another election cycle, calls for calm and maturity continue to surface from various quarters. Friends of Uganda hopes to amplify that message, reminding citizens that while political choices may differ, the destiny of the nation remains collective.
