In a significant gesture of strengthening ties
and fostering collaborative efforts, the King of Tooro, His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba
Iguru Rukidi IV, made his maiden courtesy visit to the MTN Uganda headquarters in
Kampala today.
This visit, highly anticipated by both Tooro Kingdom and MTN Uganda, underscores a
partnership aimed at driving developmental initiatives in the realms of sports and health
within the kingdom, with MTN Uganda as a partner, guided by MTN’s belief that everyone
deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. The King’s courtesy call to MTN Uganda
follows a prior visit made by the MTN Uganda CEO and the MTN Uganda leadership team to
the Karuziika palace in Fort Portal, last month.
The King, accompanied by his cabinet members and distinguished Kingdom officials, was
received by the MTN CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, alongside the MTN Uganda executive committee
members amidst great celebration, before holding a discussion of the ongoing and upcoming
projects between Tooro Kingdom and MTN Uganda.
In her remarks, Mulinge said described the visit by His Majesty the King as a testament to
the robust relationship between the Tooro Kingdom and MTN Uganda.
“We are greatly honored to host you at MTN Uganda today. Our partnership with the Tooro
Kingdom is a prime example of our commitment to societal development. This collaboration
aims to leverage MTN Uganda's resources and expertise to further the developmental
agenda of the Tooro Kingdom, based on our belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a
modern connected life,” Mulinge said.
Over the years, MTN Uganda has partnered with Tooro Kingdom to improve health services,
in a move that saw the MTN Foundation renovate and re-equip the maternity ward at Kijuura
health center 3 in 2019. MTN Uganda has also been a staunch supporter of sports as a
means of promoting health, unity, and youth empowerment among the youth in Tooro

Kingdom. The partnership with the Tooro Kingdom has seen significant investments in
sports programs aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the
youth.
In his remarks, the King thanked MTN for being a steadfast partner supporting his vision for
the Kingdom and the people of Tooro at large. He spoke to the importance of having MTN
Uganda as a long-term partner with whom they are using sports engagements to address
the issue of HIV prevention in the Kingdom.
“MTN has been a very strategic and involved partner to Tooro Kingdom. We are happy that
they are involved in empowering the youth of Tooro. Through the MTN-sponsored sports
activities, we are able to engage with the young people and sensitize them about knowing
their HIV status and teach them about HIV prevention,” said King Oyo.
His Majesty's visit was not only a celebration of the existing partnership but also a platform
to discuss and explore future collaborative opportunities. During his visit, he toured the MTN
call center, where he thanked the team for its great service before proceeding to plant a tree
at the MTN office campus to symbolize the shared commitment between MTN Uganda and
Tooro Kingdom, with regard to environmental sustainability.

of Tooro. The developmental initiatives supported by MTN Uganda are designed to create
sustainable impact and foster a better future for the community. By focusing on sports and
health, the partnership aims to address some of the key challenges faced by the people of
Tooro, ensuring they have access to better facilities and opportunities.
The courtesy visit of His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV to MTN Uganda
headquarters is a landmark event that highlights the strength of the partnership between the
Tooro Kingdom and MTN Uganda. It is a reflection of their joint commitment to driving
developmental initiatives that benefit the community. As they explore further collaboration,
