MTN Uganda Reaffirms Support for the 2nd Edition of the MTN Busoga Cycling Championship

MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Busoga
Kingdom has announced the launch of the 2nd Edition of the MTN Busoga Cycling
Championship. Scheduled to commence on January 18th, 2025, this year's championship
aims to inspire men and boys to take the lead in the fight against teenage pregnancies under
the theme: "Abasaadha Ne’Mpango" (Men Are the Pillars).
Building on the success of past programs, MTN Uganda reaffirms its unwavering support for
community-driven initiatives in the Busoga region. Last year’s MTN Busoga Masaza Cup
was a testament to the powerful role sports play in fostering unity, talent development, and
social transformation within the Kingdom.
Speaking about MTN Uganda’s involvement, John Paul Okwi, Manager Sponsorships &
Events, noted, “We are honored to partner once again with the Busoga Kingdom in this vital
initiative. The MTN Busoga Cycling Championship not only promotes sports and healthy
competition but also addresses critical societal issues. At MTN, we believe in supporting
programs that empower communities and create lasting impact. Together, we are
unstoppable.”
The launch of the championship was presided over by His Royal Highness William
Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV at the Bugembe Kingdom Headquarters. The championship
will feature two categories of races—Mountain Bikes and Tipper Bikes—at both the chiefdom
and kingdom levels.
The chiefdom qualifiers will run from January 18 to February 14, 2025, culminating in the
grand finals on February 15, 2025. Prizes for the finals include two motorcycles for the first-

place winners, UGX 4 million for second place, and UGX 2 million for third place, among
others.

There will also be participation bonuses for all riders who complete the chiefdom qualifier
races.
Reflecting on the championship’s theme, Owek Babirye Yudaya Kigenyi, Minister for
Kyabazinga Affairs, remarked, “The Busoga Kingdom is proud to collaborate with MTN
Uganda in this noble cause. The theme ‘Men Are the Pillars’ underscores the pivotal role
men and boys must play in nurturing families and safeguarding the future of our young girls.
Let us come together as a community to champion this fight against teenage pregnancies.”
MTN Uganda’s commitment to the Busoga region remains steadfast. From the MTN Busoga
Masaza Cup to this cycling championship, MTN continues to support social and economic
activities that bring communities together and promote positive change.
